Julie Hamos is running for Congress in Illinois. Julie says she stands up for what matters most. See what Julie is standing up for in her campaign for the Democratic nomination for Congress.
Why is Julie Hamos running for Congress? A month prior to her announcing for Congress, she goes on TV and says that she is running for statewide office. I wonder how she made up her mind on what office to run for? Perhaps she consulted a Magic 8 ball.
Do we want to elect someone to congress who doesn't understand that in a recession, revenues go down? When the current Illinois budget was created, we were already in a recession. What did Julie do to make sure that we had a reasonable budget taking into account the probable decrease in tax revenues? Apparently nothing, since the economic problems we have seem to have taken her by surprise.
Here is her direct quote:
“So some people out there are still confused about why we ended up with such a big budget deficit. They think it’s because of corruption or mismanagement from the last Governor, but that’s not really what happened. What happened is that the economy, the revenues just did not come in.” – Hamos in 2009 on the budget deficits. [You Tube video below, 6/24/09, at approximately 2 minutes 45 second;
This is NOT the kind of budgetary expertise that we want in Congress.
Also, trying to get her political patron, Gov. Blagojevich, off the hook for his mismanagement of the budget is a nice touch.
Do we really want to elect an Illinois Combine political insider to congress in the Tenth District? The Chicago Sun Times investigated Julie Hamos and the state legislature and found that "Early in Rod Blagojevich's time as governor, dozens of the Illinois state legislators who eventually would vote to boot him from office came to Blagojevich asking him to reward their political supporters with state jobs and other favors...."
According to the Sun Times, Julie Hamos asked Gov. Blagojevich for and received two jobs/raises for her political supporters. We all know that Blagojevich didn't give anything away for free. What kind of backroom deal did they cut? What did Julie Hamos provide Blagojevich in return?
Yet another reason Julie Hamos should NOT be elected to the U.S. Congress.
Just when we see some signs of the economy being lifted out of the Great Recession, Julie lets us know that she thinks it is too early to decide whether or not to raise taxes and that she "is a policy maker who is not afraid of increasing taxes". This is what she tells the Chicago Tribune Editorial Board on Friday, December 4th, 2009.
Taxes and more taxes. That is the Julie Hamos we know.
